My name is William Price, III.
Everybody calls me Billy.
You are about to read my bio.
The voice and perspective are about to switch because I wrote this while someone I love wrote the upcoming bit (with a great deal of care).
Everything you’ll read is true… but, it makes me a bit uncomfortable—all written out there on the internet in one uninterrupted stream.
I’d rather talk about movies or muppets. Or bell hooks. Or music. Or food.
I’d love to talk about you. I don’t even know your name.
What do I call you?
You can call me…
…a storyteller. Billy has an eye—and an ache—for transcendence. In his award-winning work as a writer, director, producer, and actor, Billy pulls viewers toward the brutal tensions of life—beauty and suffering, terror and mercy. His collaborations possess these darkly hopeful undercurrents while revealing a notable artistic malleability: he’s created alongside non-profits, Grammy-winning artists, healthcare companies, start-ups, and social justice movements. The tensions emanating from his work spark from his own filmmaking journey: reflecting his blue-collar, fireman’s son upbringing, he learned his craft hands-on as a trade rather than through film school. Beginning in the early 2000s, he began as a grip on small sets, seeking and working and growing. As a cancer survivor and father of two, William’s personal life has also been marked by the specter of suffering and healing.
A multidisciplinary creative, Billy’s longing for a more just and peaceful world led him beyond the typical bounds of a professional creative when he began advocacy and relief work for refugees and asylum seekers. His efforts were instrumental in the formation of an innovative aid program in Juarez, MX— providing food, sustainable energy, and education to vulnerable migrant families.
He currently works as Creative Director and Program Co-Director for unRival.Network. At unRival, Billy has launched a yearly Film Lab with Justice Film Festival. His vision for the film lab is to cultivate a community of filmmakers dedicated to justice and peace and innervate an uprising of films from diverse and mutually empowering voices. He has also helped design, incubate, test, and launch Artisans of Peace, an ongoing co-learning container for peacebuilders, artists, and leaders in conflict transformation. In this container, cohorts journey together for several months, slowing down, listening well, and practicing creativity and embodiment—in a process that decreases markers of isolation and burnout and increases markers of well-being and vitality for participants. Beyond that work, he co-hosts the unRival Spaces podcast and helps manage the brand, content, and communications projects that invite others to join the story of nonrivalry and justpeace envisioned at the organization.
Other professional endeavors have involved collaborations with Grammy-winning bands, non-profits, startups, and healthcare companies, as well as his personal projects as a screenwriter, actor, and director.
Friendship has provided a fertile ground for creative endeavors throughout Billy’s career. Many of his proudest professional accomplishments, from building a profitable iPhone app to film work, have been collaborative efforts with cherished friends he would just as readily spend a celebratory Sunday afternoon with.
Billy loves opening his home to friends and connecting through memorable feasts, thoughtfully designed spaces, and the humor that exists in the grit of life. He finds grounding and inspiration in his children, his friendships, the practice of yoga, and writing.
